Any of various terrestrial partridges of the genera Francolinus, Peliperidix, and Scleroptila in tribe Gallini, and genus Pternistis in tribe Tetraogallini, all in family Phasianidae.
The larger birds are the bittern, great and small bustard, eagle, francolin, goose; giant, grey and redlegged partridge, sand grouse, pelican, pheasant, stork and swan.
Birds include the ostrich, great kori bustard, the eagle, vulture, hawk and crane, francolin, golden cuckoo, bootie, scarlet and yellow finches, kingfishers, parrots (in the eastern regions), pelicans and flamingoes.
